Frequently Asked Questions

Clear Answers about membership-based primary care and how Attune works?

Membership and Payment

What is Direct Primary Care?

Direct Primary Care (DPC) is a membership-based approach to primary care. Instead fo billing insurance for visits, you pay a simple monthly membership fee. This allows for more time with your doctor, easier access, and care focused on relationships rather than volume.

Is this health insurance?

No. Most patients choose to keep insurance for services outside of primary care, such as hospital care, specialty visits, imaging, and prescriptions. Attune works alongside insurance, not instead of it.

How does membership billing work?

Memberships are billed monthly on the day you choose. Your fee covers primary care services included in your plan, regardless of how often you use care that month. There are no copays or visit-based charges for covered services.

Can I cancel my membership?

Yes. Memberships may be canceled according to the terms outlined in the Membership Agreement. We aim to keep expectations clear and flexible.

How Care is Provided

How do appointments work?

Most care is provided virtually via telemedicine to patients physically located in Texas or Florida. When an in-person exam is needed, home visits may be scheduled based on clinical need and your membership level. Home visits are available in the Grayson County, TX and surrounding areas. If you live outside of this area, in the state of Texas or Florida, you can still be seen virtually with all the other benefits.

If it is decided you need to be seen in-person for further evaluation, this will be discussed and recommendations made based on your location.

What does "virtual first" mean?

Virtual-first means we start care through telemedicine whenever appropriate. This allows faster access and reduces time away from work or home. In-person care is still available when needed and located in Grayson County, TX and immediate surrounding area.

When are home visits used?

Home visits are provided when an in-person evaluation is clinically appropriate or as needed for Signature members if located in or surrounding Grayson County, TX. This means your first visit, or annual wellness visit is a home visit, and other visits as needed. Those with more complex needs may require more than two home visits per year. Availability and frequency depend on your membership plan and clinical need.

How do I communicate with the doctor?

Established members communicate primarily through the secure Practice Better patient portal. It is important to activate your account and download the Practice Better app to receive all notifications and timely messages from Dr. JoBeth. Phone calls may also be used when needed. Email is not a secure method for medical communication. Portal text messaging is a secure method of communication.

Services & Scope of Care

What conditions do you treat?

Attune provides comprehensive primary care, including preventive care, acute illness visits, and chronic condition management. Care is individualized based on your needs.

Do you manage chronic conditions?

Yes. We manage many chronic conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, thyroid disorders, and more, with a focus on long-term health and continuity.

Do you handle labs and referrals?

Yes. We order and review labs, coordinate imaging, and provide referrals to specialists when needed. We aim for transparency and cost-conscious care whenever possible.

What services are not included?

Attune does not provide emergency care, hospital services, or specialty procedures. Those services are handled through hospitals, urgent care centers, or specialists as appropriate. Home visits are not provided outside the Grayson County, TX service area. In greater Texas and Florida, all visits are virtual via telemedicine.

Emergencies & Safety

What should I do in an emergency?

If you are experiencing chest pain, trouble breathing, stroke symptoms, severe injury, or any life-threatening emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room immediately.

Do you provide urgent care?

Attune is a primary care practice, not an urgent care or emergency facility. Some urgent concerns may be addressed through telemedicine, but emergencies should always be handled by emergency services. Emergencies requiring hospital care include: chest pain, shortness of breath, weakness/numbness/tingling that begins suddenly, swelling of the face/tongue/lips, severe abdominal pain, dislocations/suspected broken bones, sudden severe head pain, sudden vision loss, cuts that will not stop bleeding after 20-30 minutes of adequate pressure. In these cases, you should go to the nearest emergency room or call 911.

When should I go to the ER?

Go to the emergency room for severe symptoms, sudden changes in condition, or any situation that feels life-threatening. Do not use the patient portal, email, or voicemail for emergencies unless you are calling/sending a message to let me know that you are going to the ER. Do not wait on a response to get help in an emergency.
